The Floral Park School District is dedicated to providing all students with quality instruction and opportunities for academic and social/emotional achievement. The district delivers an array of programs, opportunities, and services that will support all students as they develop their abilities to communicate, collaborate, think critically and be creative, as well as, foster and encourage understanding and participation in our school community. Our goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the twenty-first century.

Learning about the High School Transition Process

On Thursday, March 16th, our colleagues from the Sewanhaka Central High School District provided a presentation for families of students in grades 4, 5, and 6 on the transition to 7th grade. Dr. Grossane, Superintendent, Ms. Agrusa, Deputy Superintendent, and Chairpersons of English and Science, Dr. Sullivan and Ms. Knowles, shared information on academic schedules, locker use, extra-curricular opportunities, summer program offerings, and opportunities for meaningful articulation between our district and the Floral Park Memorial High School. Thank you to our 6th grade student council members for sharing their insight and questions on what the most pertinent information was that they needed to know about the process!

HMH Into Reading

Students holding books

To increase reading and writing successes for our students, the district has introduced a comprehensive K-6 literacy curriculum, HMH Into Reading, this school year. The program is rooted in providing a strong phonetic foundation, culturally relevant texts that support student comprehension, writing based on text discussion and practice in speaking and listening to different topics. HMH Into Reading offers opportunities for whole-class, small group and independent instruction. Each week, the students study a particular text through which they connect vocabulary, writing and comprehension.

The district offered HMH Parent Workshops last week, which can be found below.
