Floral Park-Bellerose Schools Hosts “The Brain Show”
The auditorium of Floral Park-Bellerose School was transformed to resemble a live TV game show, as students teamed up to answer a variety of questions for the interactive educational game “The Brain Show,” on April 28.
The assembly was offered three times throughout the school day for third and fourth graders, kindergarten through second graders, and fifth and sixth graders. Standing in teams at colorful podiums equipped with electronic scoring and an answer button, students were quizzed on topics involving math, science, spelling, music, movies and more. They were also taught different dance moves to celebrate their correct answers.

Floral Park-Bellerose Fourth Graders Create Bottle Cap Murals
Floral Park-Bellerose School fourth graders in Tiffany Lopez’s class completed murals created from bottle caps.
The class was inspired to create the murals after reading an article “The Problem with Plastic” in early January. After discussing the article as a class, the students learned that only approximately 9% of plastic thrown away is recycled. They wanted to find a way to spread this message to others. Along with creating videos on iMovie describing the problem with plastic, the class created art with reused bottle caps.
During January, February and March, the students collected plastic bottle caps from home. They created various mural designs on the Seesaw app. The class voted on their favorite designs, and then worked collaboratively to create the murals.
Once the murals were complete, the class wrote letters to Principal John DeKams and Assistant Principal Dominique Siebert, asking if the murals could be displayed at the school. In April, the murals were put on display in the main office and by the security office.
“The students worked extremely hard, and I commend them on their creativity and intrinsic motivation,” Ms. Lopez said. “They are an amazing group of students, and I am so proud to be their teacher.”
